I purchased the 6'11" (26 foot) model after reading all the reviews of similar products and going down to see a couple of ladders at the local big box store. I'll admit to some trepidation spending more for the "real thing/made in USA" ladder (I mean: really---it's a ladder!), but I have always had instilled in me an appreciation of having the "right tools for the job" and of good quality tools in general. On the theory that I'm unlikely to ever purchase another ladder (I'm not a contractor, drywall installer, painter, carpenter, etc.... just some guy), I went for it rather than be disappointed.
My house has quite high ceilings and a fair number of trees, so my need for a large ladder was pretty obvious. I'd been using a 6' fiberglass ladder, but there were plenty of times when I was out-of-reach and doing marginal ladder-dancing. This ladder must weigh six or seven times as much as the old vanilla ladder, which is the one serious minus to this tool, but otherwise is a total replacement. When collapsed completely, it is the same size as my old ladder, but with far more versatility.
For starters, it adjusts beautifully. Height adjustment is simple and pleasingly secure. It can be used in "straight" or A-frame modes and the splayed bottom makes it more stable than a regular straight ladder. When used straight (instead of A-frame), one end of the ladder can be removed to reduce weight. In A-frame mode, the ability to adjust different heights to each side helps deal with hillsides, stairs, and such. There are wheels on one end to help with dragging the ladder. Carrying the ladder (did I mention heavy??) is back busting. The latches and hinges are very solid, are fool-proof, and seem likely to last a lifetime of "normal" use.
Yeah, it's a ladder. And it's way heavy. And costly by comparison. But how often do you buy a ladder? And who want to be thinking the phrase "cheap knock-off ladder" while 26 feet in the air? YMMV. But overall I'm pleased with my purchase.

I bought this ladder to replace and old light duty 20ft extension ladder that i had in the garage that just wasnt long enough or strong enough.I read all the reviews on this ladder before i bought it and all i kept hearing is "this ladder is too heavy" or "it a pain to lug around".Well the people are right it is heavy and it is a pain to lug around however if someone wanted a light ladder they should have bought a lighter duty one.Little Giant says its a HEAVY duty muti-ladder hence its "Heavy"!DUH!So people quit complaining.If you didnt want a heavy duty ladder then you should have bought one of those generic 200-250lb capacity ladders.
I specifically read a few reviews about a few FAT guys like myself that have been using this ladder with no problems so that sold me right there.I personally am pushing the 300lb mark.The ladder is very strong and i wasnt ever scared going up it.It always seemed to be very sturdy even when it wasnt on a completely level surface.There are a couple of down falls on this ladder.Using this ladder as an extension ladder is a pain in the butt!!Extending this ladder and putting it up is a chore from the weight so you better "PACK A LUNCH" or have a friend help you.I seen the video of Little Giant demonstrating how to extend the 26' ladder on your own and i followed the steps just as they showed but i had to bust my butt to do it and i got hit in the head a few times trying it.I swear the guy in the video made it look effortless!I swear there had to be a guy hidden above the ladder out of reach of the camera helping him extend it.I didnt even extend mine completely and i still had problems and im not what you call a whimpy little guy either.Little Giant needs to make some type of pulley system for this ladder to extend it.
Using the Little Giant as an A-frame ladder is pretty nice.Its easy to extend and setup.Its nice to be able to walk up either side of the ladder and i was able to switch sides on the ladder when i was at the very top without having to go back down the ladder.Heck i wasnt even on a level surface.One of the legs wasnt even touching the ground because i was too lazy to extend the leg leveler i had on this ladder.Even with this ladder wobbling around on 3 feet i still felt very safe.
Conclusion-- The Little Giant 26' ladder is definitely a strong ladder and well made.Great for the larger guys!!If you'll be using it as an extension ladder most of the time,i really suggest go buying a regular extension ladder if you have the room to store it.Like i said "Little Giant needs to invent some type of pulley system to extend the ladder"!Using it as an a-frame ladder is a pleasure though.The plus with this ladder is its small compact store area under 7ft tall,and folding it up,it will stand upright on its own.There are trade offs with this ladder.Weight vs its compact size.It weighs a ton but it is compact,very strong,and well made.I only give it 4 stars because of how much work it is to use it as an extension ladder.The shorter versions of the Little Giant probably dont have as much extension problems because of the weight issues as the larger version has and im sure they are a little easier to carry around too.

This is the best made, most sturdy ladder we have ever owned. This is our second purchase of a Little Giant. We originally purchased the 17' ladder because we have a regular aluminum extension ladder and didn't want to spend too much money. My husband actually didn't want to order it because of the price. I ordered it anyway because I did not feel comfortable with him climbing our extension ladder while I was at the bottom bracing it to keep it steady. After using the Little Giant ladder and experiencing the heavy duty quality and stability of it, we purchased the longer Little Giant and are going to get rid of our flimsy extension ladder. Excellent product and worth the investment.

A super-solid ladder in stepladder mode: it's like standing on stairs, and that's great for such things as pressure washing the second story of a house. This will get your feet up 6-8' or so and rock solid.
That said, this weighs a LOT, and it isn't easy to fit into tight spaces. Also, I need full-extension mode to reach my second-story roofline. My dog's fetch ball got up there two days ago, and I'm not looking forward to setting this unit up for that two-second task. Unlike a telescoping extension ladder, which you can just point upward and pull a rope to extend, this ladder needs to be fully extended on the ground and then swung into place (anyone eager to swing 22' of aluminum around from one end?) In principle, you could do the final extension with the ladder in vertical position, but that could crush your fingers if you let anything slip. Right now, I'm thinking I'll sell the ladder and use separate extension and step ladders.
I have not tried a smaller Little Giant, and maybe with the size and weight issues lessened, that would be all roses. So this review is only for the 22' type 1A.
