I am a photographer who has been using these ladders for years. They have always had weak spots which contributed to them collapsing after a few years. The reason I keep buying them is they have generously sized steps which make standing on them much more comfortable. I ordered a new one last week to replace a broken one. It appears that several of the weak spots have been re-engineered and I look forward to hopefully not having this one collapse on me. The biggest problem I have with the new one is that the re-engineered clips which must be squeezed in order to put down the handle are extremely hard to squeeze, and the pins which must go into a hole to keep the handle up do not line up very well. In other words,it was almost impossible to put the handle down once it was up. I called Amazon and they immediately sent me a new one. The new one is a little better, but not good. Hopefully the company will work on a better solution for the future.

Pretty much as advertised. Pleasant surprise. I weigh almost 250 pounds, and feel secure on the unit. Each step is roomy enough to make your feet feel like they are standing on something steady. You can actually lean over a bit and still feel stable. Mine opens and closes like butter - which is a surprise for something this robust. The latch for opening and closing the handrail can be a bit hard to work sometimes if you are in a lazy mode, but that too is positive and stable. The unit seems to be all about safety - a good safe platform to work from if you only have to go up so far. It's a bit heavier than I had hoped, so I'm not sure how willing my wife will be to use it - but that's a whole nother story. Anyway, in my opinion, all the trade offs are on the right side of the equation with this unit.
I remember nickel Cokes, .50 cent movies, .29 cent gas, and $2,000 new cars, so the price seems a bit high to me, but when you consider what you have to pay for junk these days, it ain't too bad, I guess. This ain't junk.

If you need a really solid and sturdy wide-step ladder for reaching modest heights, this is it. It's not cheap and it's heavy but it won't slip around or tip over and it won't break or even flex.

I got this for my 90 year old mother. It is really solid. The steps are wide and not spaced far apart. It does fold up but you need a special place to keep it. It is quite large. She hangs it on a wall in her spare bedroom. Unfortunately my brother got her a $20 one from Kmart which is small and unstable. That's the one she uses because she keeps it in the kitchen. If she has a big job like hanging curtains, she gets the JUMBO out.
