I use this ladder for photography as well as other tasks which require a little height. It is very well made, durable, and feels rock solid even when it's sitting on top of a spongy surface thanks to the large footprint of the feet. It locks in place once fully opened, and has a nice tray on the back for placing various items. It's lightweight which makes it easy to transport around. All in all I'd recommend this item to anyone who needs a stepladder.

I'm disabled and, at 73, have a justifiable fear of falling. This is lightweight, essential for me to carry it, and is stable enough I'm not afraid to use it for, say, changing a lightbulb. It would never have satisfied me in earlier years, but I've spent enough time in hospitals for a while. There are times my step stool just doesn't satisfy, and I have no idea where my son put my bigger ladder--probably couldn't handle it now anyway. BTW, don't want to make others my age feel I am denigrating abilities of aging. But I'm on oxygen, have had osteoporosis breaks but like living on my own.

I've been in need of a new step ladder for some time but I can't decide what model or size. My old one of 30-some years is wooden and is getting rickety and splintery and covered with paint stains. Then recently, I was strolling through my local Costco Warehouse store and found a display of these little 5-foot ladders. It wasn't what I wanted, but it certainly looked like a handy thing to have around the house. Another impulse item gets added to the shopping cart.



This Cosco latter has proved to be quite handy. It's very light and easy to handle, yet it's sturdy and stable. It has rubber footpads so my new floors won't be damaged. It has a convenient top shelf which will hold paint cans, tools, etc. A feature that I really like is that the third step is a sturdy platform that both holds the ladder together but also can serve as a standing platform. This platform is more stable than standing on the third step of a conventional step ladder. I find that I can stand and work easily and the ladder remains completely stable. (For safety, I usually hold onto something with one hand.) In our house, that allows me to work on the highest objects without many problems. I'm probably still going to get a full-sized step ladder, but this little 5-footer is a real convenient and nicely designed piece of equipment to have around the house. I'm delighted with it!

I just bought this last month and needed to use it today, I wanted a sturdy step and I trusted the Cosco brand. I have several other Cosco products.

This product is sturdy and strongly built but very poorly ergonomically designed. The first step does not project past the second step sufficiently so that the first step ( which is very much smaller than the top step) has an extremely small footprint. It is not only awkward but the top step painfully contacts your shins. This product does not meet any normal stair step guidelines and must have been designed by someone that doesn't really need such a device and normally uses something like a turned over bucket.

The Cosco 11-880PBLW2 Max Platinum Work Platform is the 2nd generation of this work stool. I bought two of the originals with the gray steps and yellow handle and bucket tray in March 2007, one for the garage and one for a workshop. After 3 years of regular use, the performance and durability has been outstanding as they are still like new. The only difference is that the steps, tray and handle on the new model are all the same matching color, a dark gray or black, which is probably more pleasing to most customers. The U.S. patent number remains the same on both the old and new models, D465,289.



When an elderly parent recently ask me to find a safe and sturdy step stool that she could handle, it was a quick and easy choice.



Since my Amazon.Com review on the older model didn't carry over to this one, here it is again with a few additions.



Here are a few bits of information that are not included in the product description. Many customers found this helpful before. The 1st step is 9 3/4 inches high. The 2nd step is 19 3/4 inches high. The 3rd step is 29 1/2 inches high. The tool and bucket tray rim is 42 3/4 inches high. The top of the handle is 55 inches high. I could not find this information anywhere before buying the first time around. As it turned out, these heights were exactly what I needed. The tool and bucket tray is fantastic and the top hand rail can be a life saver. It is lighter and easier to fold and unfold than I'd expected - and what a space saver. Excellent product!!!

Cats think this is the greatest cat tree in the world and jostle to see who gets to sleep in the bucket and tool tray. Forget the nice soft beds. They'd rather have the Cosco work stool. Go figure.

As the title says "one of the greatest step ladders ever." The ladder feels extremly sturdy. Other ladders say they have large or oversized steps but this one has them all beat. The full grip you are able to get on the steps allows you to lean into the ladder, if you need to, and feel completly secure. Along with the steps is the construction of the frame. The large tubular design makes it extra strong and the oversized feet are perfect. Over course the tray is of great use also.



Oh, and one very important thing I discovered from shopping around for a step ladder is that other brands that look similar to this have a poorly designed handle that opens and retracts the steps. On other brands the bar that the handle clips to is right at the back edge of the step. So if your not careful you pinch your fingers when you open it (at least the first time). This ladder is designed so that there is no worry of that problem. The bar is set back from the edge and there is a piece of plastic between your fingers and the bar. The clip to the bar is also designed for easy release. So you don't have to yank it loose from the bar, like other brands.



I saw an older model of this ladder a few years ago and thought it was great. I just bought my first house and have a ton of repairs to do. So I went out to find myself a good step ladder but after going to a few different stores I was severely disappointed. The other brands looked similar but when I would step onto them at the store they didn't feel safe at all. With this ladder I feel 100% confident in what is under me. Basically, when I'm using it, I don't even think about the fact that I'm standing on a ladder. I can completely focus on what I'm working on.



I don't know what else I can say. I love this ladder.

Since I am short, 5' 1", and my cabinets are tall, I was unable to reach above the first shelf. At my age I decided it was time to quit climbing up on the bar stools. I have the older version that folds as I lift the handle. It still works after possibly 15 years and has been safe for me.



The new one has a locking feature that is practically impossible to unlatch so it can be folded. Still works but I have to keep it open which to say the least is inconvenient. I would not buy another as long as it has this locking feature. Shorty

I am very happy with this stool because I am 5'2" in height, and I purchased this step stool specifically to use in my kitchen which has a almost 9 foot ceiling. I wanted a smaller stool (2 step) but i also wanted to be able to reach to wipe the top of the walls and windows, get stuff down from the top shelves etc. I can easily reach those areas when standing on the top step. This stool seems sturdy, and the steps are a generous size and there are little rubber nubs on the steps for extra traction. The measurement of the stool when open is 35 inches high, but when it's folded closed it is actually 37 inches high. I did not take that in to account when anticipating where to store it - I assumed for some reason it would also be 35 inches high when closed. I had planned it to fit standing up under a shelf in my broom closet, but now it doesn't , but oh, well.. No biggie, as it is still only 2 inches thick when closed so I am sure it will fit in lots of other spots. Note: After opening, make sure to push the top step down with a light force with your hands, to "snap" the top step in to place over the support bar, before climbing. When you are done, you will have to pull up on the top shelf to unsnap it, then you can fold it up. Overall I think this stool will give me many years of service.

I've had this big step two-stool for over 10 years. Recently, I gave it to my elderly father because it is very lightweight and wouldn't strain him carrying it up and down stairs and around the house. I thought I could easily replace it with any 'ol stool. Boy was I wrong. I never knew how good I had it with this stool until I had to replace it.



Mostly every step stool I've looked at has all of the following problems:



1. Too heavy. Most stools I've seen are heavyduty--"heavy" being the operative word. While these stools are a bit sturdier and steadier, you pay the price with their added weight. I live in a one-floor apartment and didn't think the extra weight would be a big deal. It soon became an issue as I discovered I was no longer able to put it up and retrieve it from the narrow nook where I stored it without great effort. Thus, I ended up leaning it against a wall rather than putting it away.



2. Steps aren't wide enough to safely transverse. The bottom step typically does not stick out far enough to easily step down onto it. Rather than naturally stepping down, I had to look down to find the step first. (Clearly, no one actually tests these steps before they approve the design.)



3. Top step isn't high enough to effectively use the stool to reach high areas. A three-step stool is much more than I need. A one-step stool is too low. A two-step stool is just right, assuming the second step is high enough. I noticed other stools have the top step a couple of inches lower than this stool.



I bought a stool from Home Depot and lasted about a month before I returned it. I hated it. It had all of the above problems. Much to my joy, Cosco still makes the model I had. $28 is a bit pricey as compared to others, but if I cannot find it cheaper anywhere else, I'll have to suck it up and pay it. No other stool will do.

This item is described as "Meets ANSI Standard s for Type II Medium Household Rating"; however the label attached to the product clearly states Type III. Type II is a "medium" rating, Type III is a "light" rating. The stool was lower than expected and I've since seen it offered for sale at Home Depot for $10 less (not marked "Cosco" brand but obviously the same product). The stools at Home Depot were also marked Type III. I returned the stool to Amazon because of the incorrect description. I was impressed by the ease of returning the stool; Amazon arranged for UPS to pick up the package from my house at their expense. I'm not impressed that Amazon still hasn't corrected their product description.



I have since purchased an aluminum stool from Home Depot for under $20 which is rated Type II, is several inches higher than this item, and is much easier to carry around because of its light weight.

This is definitely the best step stool available on the market. I've had one for fifteen years and I made my mother buy one for the kitchen when I caught her climbing up on a chair to reach a high shelf. Basically everyone can use one of these, from children (who can use it as a chair as well as a ladder) to the elderly. It's perfect for changing light bulbs and dusting the top of the bookshelf.



It's very stable when open and you can pick it up and move it around and open and close it all with one hand. It's fine for painting 8 or 9 foot ceilings. It allows you to get pretty close to a vertical surface with the rear of the top step about 6" from the wall.



The steps are 14.5" wide and the bottom one is 8" deep and the top one is 10" deep. The bottom step is 9.5" from the floor and the top step is 20" from the floor. There are non-skid feet at all four corners and the steps have a deep diagonal safety tread. You can grab the back bar to steady yourself when stepping onto the bottom step and it touches your shins to provide a tactile clue to keep you steady when on the second step.



The metal has not rusted even though I keep it in the kitchen next to the refrigerator. Closed it is about 3" deep, 17.5" wide, and 42.25" tall so it's not hard to store.

Not a retro. Every time I pick up the chair to move it the step falls out and you have to put it together when you get it to where you are using it. If the location isn't exact and you need to move it, you get to reassemble it again. The worthless retro step stool sits in the corner of the kitchen, and I go to the garage to get the beat up original chair of my grandma, to use (that's a great step stool).
