"Excellent ladder idea, but not perfect" 2010-03-18
By W. A. Freeman Jr. (Auburn, AL USA)
I purchased the Xtend & Climb FW-71 for my photography business about two months ago. It is an excellent idea for carting cameras and equipment into a wedding or photo event locations. After getting the gear in, then it comes in handy as a step ladder to get some elevation and angle on your subject. It is great for working on a backdrop, covering a window, adjust a hairlight, or anything a 4 foot ladder is used for.

Pros:

1. Closed up it is only about three inches thick. The wheels fold up to make it thinner.

2. It is fairly heavy duty and I believe can handle a little over 100 pounds.

3. The steps are large and the rounded top handle gives some stability to the person on the ladder. I weigh 200 pounds and feel very secure on the ladder up to the second step where my thighs can press against the handle.

Cons:

1. Fairly heavy but probably as light as it could be unless going to a high-cost composite.

2. When pulling a load up a step(s)the wheels will often collapse. The is a major defect in design that I have got to figure a work-around for. The reason is when you normally fold the wheels you have pull down on the wheel and turn it to fold. When pulling a load up a step, this creates the same action and the wheel will often fold. There should be a way to lock it in place and then release for folding. I am going to work on this defect so it can work for me. It is tough to get the wheel back out when you have eighty pounds of gear on it.

So far, worth the purchase cost.

 "Rolling Step Stool" 2010-02-10
By JShay (Coastal CA)
For those who are looking for a stool that you don't have to pick up to move, this rolling stool is perfect. In the kitchen, I can just kick it to where I want it and step up. Once you put weight on it, the wheels retract and the base of the stool remains stable on the floor. When you step off, the spring-loaded wheels come back out ready to be rolled to the next place. This is the type of stool that are used in libraries. The heavy-duty steel version costs more, but this particular Xtend & Climb 962 is made of sturdy plastic, is lighter weight, and is reasonably priced.

This step stool is great -- very sturdy although plastic. Works fine for my needs and it's a great color.

 "Returned it" 2009-09-02
By SZQ
One of the legs was not secure upon arrival, fell right outof the unit. I didn't have the unit replaced as it didn't glide as nicely as some of the pricey metal ones I have used.

It did seem to perform as priced however. If you need one and are on a budget this will suffice, just don't expect the same glide and movement as the expensive models.

 "A waste of money" 2010-04-08
By Dale L. Vayer (Dale City, VA United States)
The zipper broke on the first attempt to close it. The zipper is cheap plastic. A complete waste of money. The concept is great, the canvas seems solid, the fit is tight, the cheap zipper ruined the entire product. I really wanted this to work, so I could store the ladder in our coat closet.

"sturdy climb for quick reach but not for extended use" 2009-05-04
By PMH (Ozawkie, KS USA)
This works perfectly for me because I wanted something light that would fold up small to slip into a corner of my office. I needed more than the 200 pound weight limit of most step stools. I use it for quick climbs to reach the top shelves of my book cases. Do not buy this step stool for painting or anything requiring long standing time -- the narrow steps will give your calves a workout and your stability will be compromised.

 "For acrobats only" 2008-05-04
By Bernard Moss
This stepladder looks nice and is very light. I could look at it all day, but it is not usable. The steps are tiny almost like steps on a ladder. When you climb up on the third step you are doing a balancing act just like in the circus. Unfortunatly I am not an acrobat. I think this step ladder is very unstable and difficult to use and do not recommend it

 "Great value" 2007-05-17
By K. J. Winters (CT United States)
This step stool is very light, folds easily, is very sturdy and allows me to reach the highest cabinet in the kitchen. I do wish the steps were a bit wider though.

 "Great for specific use...." 2010-02-27
By John C. Roberts (Utah)
I have a home with high ceilings (14 ft.) & need a way to change the smoke alarm batteries. This is a big deal, since it needs to be done once each year; not to mention dealing with false alarms... Standard extension ladders are too heavy. This product fits the bill, at a reasonable cost & completely manageable weight!

Highly recommended!

 "Watch your fingers" 2009-12-09
By F. Austin (Orchard Park, N.Y.)
The ladder is handy but a little dangerous. When you are collapsing the steps of the ladder make sure your fingers are away from the yellow collapsing levers. Smashed fingers are a real possibility.

 "Climbing up the wall" 2009-06-24
By Robin Benson
A really handy solution of where to keep that ladder. This telescopic one can be kept in a small space and will be extremely useful if you do a professional job (surveyor for example) and need a ladder but drive a car.

The weight is acceptable and I think the manufacturing of this model is robust enough for plenty of use. I have, though, found a slight design flaw: the rungs have right-angled edges so that when the unit is leaning against something you place your foot on the apex of the rung. I'm surprised that this hasn't been solved by slightly curving the edge of the rungs, like any normal ladder.

It could be, of course, that this problem will be solved with the next model and advertised as: Now with new improved rungs! Get yours TODAY!

 "Well built substantial ladder" 2007-05-21
By James E. Coutts (Beloit, WI USA)
The Xtend & Climb ladder was purchased for accessing attic crawl spaces for work as an inspector and appraiser. Being 250 lbs I was concerned about buying a less expensive and lower pound rated ladder. There is a trade-off between weight and strength here. I am very satisfied with the quality and operation and it fits nicely into the trunk of a smaller car. Its heavier but can be carried under one's arm. I would recommend it for someone who is heavier or needs a stronger well built telescoping ladder.

"Great and compact for easy transport" 2009-10-22

In the past I have used little giants to for there flexibility but they weigh allot. Finally after marking up a wall trying to set up the little giant to get on high on a wall, I decided to by one of these ladders. Was a great choice and should have brought it along time ago. Also the owner of the job site I was at like it so much he was going to order one.

"Not reliable, all parts not available" 2009-05-15
By Michael S. Moreno (Lake Charles, LA)
I have the 15.5 ft, heavy duty model. This ladder started out great. Within 8-10 uses it did not open and close very well. The ladder would not lock properly without effort to make sure each pin was properly seated. My real problem came after about 20 uses when one of the locking mechanisms came apart. The leg will no longer lock at all. The company does not offer a replacement for this part (even though it is easily removed), therefore I am stuck with an almost new ladder that I can't use. I think it would make a good ladder for a homeowner who will not use it often and can be very careful with it. Even though I was extremely careful transporting it I believe that is how it was damaged. I think the locking mechanism was hit during transportation. The design of the thumb lever can be hit easily. The ladder is not designed well enough for medium duty use, only light use.

 "Excellent" 2006-12-15
By Robert I. Coulter (Atlanta, GA)
These ladders are absolutely wonderful. A 12 ladder that can easily fit in the trunk of any car (even my SI hatchback). What I love most about this ladder is that you can take it in places bigger ladders can not go, and then extend it to get where you need to be. This ladder paid for itself on it's first use!
