"The ladder should have come with one!" 2008-08-23
By Floyd E. Marshall (Texas)
I purchased a Husky 6' fiberglass ladder from Home Depot. I didn't realize it didn't have a shelf until later. I found the Werner shelp on line but wasn't sure it would fit the Husky ladder. Some sites called it universal and some said it was for Werner ladders. I went to an Ace Hardware store and measured a Werner ladder. Bottom line; if your ladder is 14" wide at the top support bar on the back side, where the shelf will bolt, and you can drill the mounting holes, it will work great.

"Does NOT fit "all fiberglass stepladders" but is a great idea none the less" 2005-08-15
By Joey Bagadonuts (Venice, Florida)
I bought this product to fit on a "Rigid" 6' fiberglass stepladder, 300 lb. rating, that I bought at Home Depot. Under "features" the shelf manufacturer claims..."Fits on all fiberglass stepladders and 400 series aluminum"

WRONG. This will NOT fit my ladder. The packages instructions state that it will fit all Werner fiberglass ladders. I wish the ad had said that before I bought it. However, to make lemonade out of lemons, I bought some aluminum bar stock and some nuts, bolts and washers and a large bolt and wing nut and did a little measuring and drilling. Now I can install and remove the shelf easily with via one wing nut, but it cannot be closed, and the shelf must be removed to close the ladder.

This product is still a great idea and I'd definitely buy it again if I had a ladder it would fit on.

"Great, but needs the right tools to install--" 2004-04-24

This is a very useful enhancement for the Werner stepladder, but attaching the danged thing can be a vexation. You'll need a 3/8" (socket) wrench for the nuts and "vise-grip" pliers (or a second socket wrench!) to hold the screws while tightening the nuts, in order to properly secure the shelf to the ladder frame. The screws are of the "hex" type, not the slotted type, so they cannot accommodate a screwdriver.

Also, _do_ read the instructions and look at the diagrams _before_ beginning installation.

 "Expensive but worth it." 2003-06-16
By Steven Carter (Virginia, MN United States)
I bought a yellow version of this item at my local hardware store for $$. Although it is expensive given that it is only a bit of blow molded plastic, it is easy to install, works well, and makes your ladder much more useful. It is a "must have" item for painting from a can or bucket. It adds only a neglegible amount of weight to the ladder, moves out of the way on it's own when you close the ladder, and holds even the biggest of buckets securely. Bite the bullet and buy the darn thing. You know you need it.

"Works well on Louisville ladder" 2010-02-03
By K. Bush (Federal Way, WA USA)
My home rests on a hillside and, with a partial daylight basement, rises three-stories up from the backyard. After 10-years in what was a new home, the caulking around my windows began to fail and needed replacing. Unfortunately, I could not reach the ladders on the side of my house because of the slope. I purchases this item and installed it onto my Louisville fiberglass ladder (model L-3022-24). This ladder has an aluminum footing that did require use of a handheld grinder to remove some rivets and other material (as explained in the installation instructions), but the Universal Level-Ett DM101 Ladder Stabilizer fit it just fine. It took me about one hour to install, and it worked exactly as advertised. Now that I have it, I've decided to paint my house myself. I consider it a very worthwhile investment.

"Tricky install, but works great" 2009-10-12
By D. Bishop (Tyrone, Georgia)
Nice product. Solidly constructed and easy to use. I'm not sure why, but these didn't fit my aluminum Werner ladder as well as I thought they would. I mean, Werner makes the most common extension ladder around, don't they?

I removed the stock feet from the ladder and commenced the install. Instructions state that the stabilizers should be mounted flush with the base of the ladder. However, the lowest rung on the ladder prevented the brackets for being flush. Where the bottom of the bracket should have aligned with the bottom of the ladder, there was not enough ladder material to drill 2 holes for the lower bolts. I thought about attempting to modify the ladder, but in the end I decided to grind off a bit of material from the underside portion of the stabilizer bracket where it was hitting the low rung on the ladder. The brackets lined up fine after that.

Extra care is needed when drilling the holes for the brackets. My aluminum ladder had some ridges that made it difficult to put the drill bit right were I wanted. I recommend c-clamping the bracket in place, carefully mark the hole locations, and then use a smaller drill bit to create a pilot hole. Line up the bracket on the pilot holes and you can then make corrections once the larger hole is drilled. It also makes drilling the large hole easier when you can use the pilot hole as a guide. Took some extra effort, but all-in-all, I'm pleased.

 "OSHA compliance (?)" 2009-08-15
By H. Posgate (USA)
The levelers may indeed meet OSHA minimum standards, but there is no official OSHA logo on the product, which should indicate the necessary independent testing, so save the old fixed feet you removed from your ladder if you wish to restore compliance.

The levelers are indeed easy to install, though some ladders have a riveted bracket that needs to be drilled out and removed.

Quality looks quite excellent.
