Not a retro. Every time I pick up the chair to move it the step falls out and you have to put it together when you get it to where you are using it. If the location isn't exact and you need to move it, you get to reassemble it again. The worthless retro step stool sits in the corner of the kitchen, and I go to the garage to get the beat up original chair of my grandma, to use (that's a great step stool).

I am very happy with this chair/step stool. It is very sturdy and was easily assembled. The only problem with it is that there is a very small tear in the seat where it meets the frame of the seat. All in all, I would definitely recommend this chair.

This Cosco chair has been part of my kitchen for 50 years - first as a child, and my mom still has hers. Then in my home for at least 20 years. And now I need another one - not because the old one failed but because I have another kitchen. The chair gives a good step stool, is good for at the countertop for writing, paying bills, and the kids love to sit on it doing homework. Am glad to see Cosco still makes it and Amazon carries it for a reasonable price.

I purchased this chair/step stool for the purpose of having a stool in the kitchen with a back on it so we could sit at the counter and work more comfortably. I thought this would be a good one since it could double as a step ladder. It's only good for a step stool as far as I'm concerned since the back is extremely uncomfortable. I've tried putting a pillow behind me and it still isn't comfortable. I feel like I wasted my money because I really needed something with a functional back. If I had to do it over again, I would not purchase this stool.

The step stool looks great, but the way the steps are designed, they do not always pull out all the way. The original Cosco step stool, which I also own, is much sturdier.

I was a little concerned when I read some of the reviews but I love this chair. It's sturdier than some reported and I use it fairly regularly as a step stool to get into my upper kitchen cabinets. It's true that it isn't the same as my grandmothers was but it's still nice and looks good. I believe hers had a track that the steps slid along and these steps are just loose but it works okay. All in all I'm very satisfied with the product.

I was disappointed in the steps. After putting the stool together, the steps slid out of the tract before I could get it to the kitchen. I thought they were supposed to fold out, so I reread the description on Amazon. Although the technical specs say "slides out", the description below that says "The smooth tracking fold-out step stool for climbing..."

I purchased this as a replacement for one my husband trash picked several years ago and never repaired or refurbished. I was a little disappointed that the bottom steps were not hinged, but merely slide out when needed. The instructions were easy to follow and the item seems to be sturdy.

This is definitely not as well made as the original. It's also smaller and the pull-out bottom step will come sliding out every time you move it and the step frequently slides out of the plastic track that it glides on. Unfortunately, this is the only chair/step stool of its kind that we could find. It works "okay", but I seriously doubt that it's going to hold up like the originals and the smaller size is a very real detriment. Cosco could have engineered a much better product, but like so many manufacturers today, took the cheap and easy way out.
